Exploring Electro-Optic Modulators

Electro-optic modulators are essential components in optical systems, enabling the manipulation of light for various applications. Let’s delve into some key players in the electro-optic modulator market and the technologies they offer.

Exail (formerly iXblue)

Exail provides a wide range of commercial electro-optic LiNbO3 modulators, along with bias controllers, analog and digital drivers, and pulse drivers for pulse generation and shaping.

Raicol Crystals

Raicol Crystals offers electro-optic modulators based on RTP or BBO crystals. They also supply super-polished LBO crystals known for their high resistance to laser-induced damage, making them suitable for high-power applications.

Thorlabs

Thorlabs has introduced the OM6N series of high-speed optical modulators based on deformable mirrors. These modulators operate in the 700 – 1350 nm range and offer nearly zero dispersion, making them ideal for modulating laser power.

EKSMA Optics

EKSMA Optics produces Pockels cells using KTP, KD*P, and BBO crystals for applications such as Q-switching, pulse picking, and laser cavity dumping. They offer complete solutions with mounting stages, drivers, and electronics.

GWU

GWU’s portfolio includes BBO and KD*P Pockels cells known for their high extinction ratio, fast switching capability, and high damage threshold. These cells can be configured in free-space or fiber-coupled designs.

Hangzhou Shalom EO

Hangzhou Shalom EO provides Pockels cells based on various crystals like DKDP, BBO, LiNbO3, and MgO:LiNbO3. Their cells offer excellent optical transmission, low half-wave voltage, high damage threshold, and low insertion loss.

ALPHALAS

ALPHALAS offers a wide range of electro-optic crystals such as LiNbO3, LiTaO3, DKDP, BBO, KTP, and RTP crystals for phase or amplitude modulation. They also have a stock of Pockels cells and phase modulators for standard laser wavelengths.

Laserton

Laserton specializes in electro-optic Q switches based on KTP Pockels cells with a thermally compensated double crystal design. Their hydrothermal-grown KTP crystals overcome electrochromism damage issues.

These companies play a significant role in advancing electro-optic modulator technologies, catering to a wide range of applications in the field of optics and photonics.
